Calf Creek Canyon
A spring-fed creek canyon off Highway 12 with a year-round campground, pictographs and granaries, and a 126-foot waterfall at the end of a 6-mile trail.
Calf Creek Recreation Area sits on Highway 12, 15 miles east of Escalante. The BLM describes the canyon as lush and colorful, with beavers, life-size pictographs, granaries, oaks and prickly pear, ending at Lower Calf Creek Falls, a 126-foot waterfall fed by springs all year.
The falls trail starts in the campground, which is open year-round but cannot take oversized vehicles. There is a day-use fee per vehicle; interagency pass holders use the day-use area free. On the trail, the BLM requires hikers to carry out all solid human waste in bags, and to pack out all trash, including food scraps. Defacing rock art is prohibited.
