Westminster says it began in 1875 as the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute, founded by the First Presbyterian Church with 27 students. Sheldon Jackson College was incorporated in 1895 and began offering college courses in 1897. It took the name Westminster College in 1902 and moved to its present campus in 1911. [1]
The school became Westminster University in 2023. It describes itself as an independent, privately funded, nondenominational institution. [1]
