Alan Ashton gave the Lehi farmland to his wife Karen as a Valentine's Day gift in 1995, and it became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1997. Farm Country opened first in 1996, followed by the gardens in 1997, the Museum of Ancient Life in 2000, the Museum of Natural Curiosity in 2014 and the Butterfly Biosphere, Utah's first insectarium, in 2019. The gardens were renamed Ashton Gardens in 2016. The grounds also hold separately managed businesses, including a golf course, a movie theater and art studios, and Thanksgiving Point serves as an extension location of Utah State University. [1]
