Utah's first Ronald McDonald House opened in 1988 with 13 rooms. As needs grew, the organization moved and expanded into a 75-room house in Salt Lake City. Through partnerships with area hospitals it later added Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and a Hospitality Cart at select hospital locations, giving families a place to rest while staying close to a child in care. [1]

The family rooms and hospitality carts sit inside partner hospitals and are run in partnership with them. That arrangement keeps families near a child's care, but it does not mean the charity operates the hospitals, and it is a different service from the lodging at the Salt Lake City house. [1]
