After a hearing, the council continued the public hearing to a later date but adopted a partial budget amendment, Ordinance 1 of 2022, covering four time-sensitive items: $400,000 from fund balance for a Salt Lake County police services contract at homeless resource centers, a $3 million COVID-19 local assistance matching grant for the Switchpoint hotel project, a council office reclassification and pay plan change with no cost, and unused CARES Act money for firefighter personnel costs (estimated at $47,000, with authorization for all unused funds). One speaker opposed the police funding, saying the money should shelter people. Another supported added police services at shelters, said the Switchpoint hotel would not be sustainable and urged more maintenance funding for city projects.
