Eureka council denies a Main Street conditional use permit, rents a mini excavator and lets nonresidents use the dump for $20 a load
October 13, 2026, 7:00 p.m. · Eureka City Hall
At its Oct. 13 meeting the Eureka City Council denied a conditional use permit for a property on West Main Street, chose to rent rather than buy a mini excavator, and set a $20 per load fee for non-Eureka residents to use the city dump. It moved ahead with income surveys for a Community Development Block Grant pending state approval and waived the special event fee for the Oct. 24 Spooktacular. The mayor said the city was decertified from the Certified Local Governments program, which affects historic preservation grants, and floated moving City Hall into the Memorial Building. Council Member Tony Atherley was absent.
