Background, as reported

The Tribune describes Rosemary Lesser as a retired OB-GYN and Air Force veteran who served in the Utah House. Democratic delegates selected her in 2021 to fill the seat of the late Rep. LaWanna Shurtliff. She won re-election in 2022 and lost to Jill Koford in 2024 by about 300 votes. [1]

In their own words: the Tribune questionnaire

Lesser wrote that people lose confidence in government when officials make binding decisions behind closed doors. On affordability, she proposed expanding Utah's First-Time Homebuyers Assistance Program to include all homes, not just new construction, and eliminating the state sales tax on groceries. On water, she wrote that supply is limited and every decision involving growth must make that the primary consideration. Her additional priority was opposing the 2025 change that requires voters to opt in to receive a mailed ballot. [1]

The candidate answered against on Constitutional Amendment A (publishing proposed amendments on state websites) and against on Amendment B (60 percent voter approval for citizen initiatives that raise taxes). [1]
