Background

Kevin Potter became Box Elder County Sheriff in January 2015, when the county Republican Party's central committee chose him to fill the vacancy left by the death of Sheriff Lynn Yeates. He had served 21 years in the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office and had been Yeates's chief deputy for eight years. In the June 23, 2026 primary, preliminary results showed Mike Allred ahead of Potter, 63% to 36%, according to KSL.
