Former governor of Utah (2009–2021)

Historical profile of completed public service; no current elected office or candidacy is assigned.

Background

Gary Herbert served as Utah governor from 2009 to 2021, following earlier service as lieutenant governor and a Utah County commissioner. His career before statewide office included attendance at Brigham Young University, six years in the Utah National Guard and work in real estate through Herbert and Associates. He also held leadership positions with the National Governors Association, the Western Governors Association and the Council of State Governments. The National Assessment Governing Board's biography records his gubernatorial service and earlier county experience; its listed 2021–2025 board term is historical rather than evidence of a current appointment.
