Edward (Ed) Long serves on the Vernal City Council; the city lists his term as running to January 2028. His city page says he retired from the oil and gas industry after a 40-year career that included co-founding and serving as chief operating officer of an energy company in Pennsylvania and serving as president of a Texas public company. It lists study at BYU and a master's degree in petroleum engineering. His assignments are the Health Care Service District, the Uintah County and Vernal City Interlocal Agency, the Public Works Committee and the USSD1 Recreation Board. Vernal's biography of Ed Long describes a 40-year career in oil and gas, more than ten years of it in the Uintah Basin. He attended Brigham Young University and holds a master's degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Wyoming. He co-founded and served as chief operating officer of a Pennsylvania energy company and later was president of a publicly traded company based in Texas.
Vernal's council on Sept. 16 awarded the 500 South mill-and-overlay project to Burdick Materials for $1,599,895, the low of three bids and below an engineer's estimate of about $2 million. Councilmember Randel Mills recused himself, citing a conflict of interest.
