Fiscal note

From the Legislative Fiscal Analyst's note on H.B. 226, dated January 20, 2026. A fiscal note estimates direct costs and revenue; it is not an appropriation.

  • State revenue: Enactment of this legislation likely will not materially impact state revenue.
  • State expenditures: Enactment of this legislation likely will not materially impact state expenditures.
  • Local government: Inasmuch as a county sheriff implements an alternative incarceration program, the county would incur costs to implement the program. Costs would vary based on the size of the county and number of incarcerated individuals in county jails. Some of this increased cost could be reduced due to the reduced number of days a person would be incarcerated in a county jail.
  • Individuals and businesses: Enactment of this legislation likely will not result in direct expenditures from tax or fee changes for Utah residents and businesses.
