Sandy sets a bond election for up to $30 million for the former Crescent View school site

The Sandy City Council adopted a resolution on Aug. 11, 2026 calling an election on general obligation bonds of not more than $30,000,000, according to a public notice posted Sept. 4, 2026. ^[1]

The notice says proceeds would acquire, develop, renovate and equip the former Crescent View Middle School property for community, recreation, arts, cultural, park, open-space, trail and municipal uses, plus issuance costs. The bonds would be secured by ad valorem property taxes and could be issued in series. ^[1]

Public hearing

The notice set a public hearing for 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 22, 2026 at the Sandy City offices, 10000 Centennial Parkway, on the bond issuance and its potential economic impact on the private sector. ^[1] The council's Sept. 17 agenda item for that hearing carries the same $30,000,000 limit. ^[2]

Arguments on file

The Salt Lake County Clerk published an argument in favor and an argument against. The argument in favor says a yes vote does not automatically spend $30 million and that the city would buy the roughly 17-acre property from Canyons School District for $17 million. ^[3]

The argument against says the total cost will be well over $30 million when operating and capital costs are included. ^[3]

Earlier bond vote

In 2023 Sandy voters approved a $21 million general obligation bond for Fire Station 31, with 67 percent in favor, KJZZ reported. ^[4]
