North Ogden approved a $48-a-ton garbage disposal deal through 2028

North Ogden's City Council approved a solid waste disposal services agreement with Republic Services for use of the Ogden Transfer Station on June 23, 2026, according to the approved minutes. ^[1]

City Manager/Attorney Jon Call said staff compared the proposed rate with Waste Management's rate at the Weber County Transfer Station and found the Ogden Transfer Station rate $0.18 per ton lower. ^[1]

The terms described

Call said the agreement would run through June 30, 2028, and renew automatically for one-year terms unless terminated. The initial disposal rate would be $48 per ton, with annual adjustments based on the federal Consumer Price Index for water, sewer and trash collection services. ^[1]

Fuel surcharges would be adjusted under a fuel-price index. Call said Republic Services could request an extraordinary market adjustment, and if one exceeded 10%, the city would have 30 days to terminate. ^[1]

Republic Services representatives said the city's waste would go to the Ogden Transfer Station and then to the company's landfill in Tooele County. Council Member Chris Pulver said the agreement affects only the city's curbside collection, and Weber County residents would keep access to the county station for personal disposal. ^[1]

The vote

Mayor Pro Tem Jay Dalpias asked how the city would handle changing fuel surcharges while residential utility rates stayed the same. Call said the council could amend utility rates if costs rose significantly and that staff would monitor the fund. ^[1]

Dalpias moved to approve the agreement, and Council Member Tera Carney seconded. Dalpias, Pulver, Carney and Nabor voted yes; Watson was recorded as excused. ^[1]

What comes next

Call said the agreement could make a future recycling program more financially feasible. The council's Oct. 6 work session agenda lists a solid waste and recycling services discussion with Republic Services, marked "PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION - No vote." ^[1][2]
