Sundance Mountain Resort
The resort Robert Redford built on the east face of Mount Timpanogos: a small, wooded, artsy mountain with steep runs, quiet lodges and some of the best food in any Utah ski base.

Robert Redford bought land in the North Fork of Provo Canyon in 1969 and built Sundance as a low-key mountain retreat, with lodging tucked into the trees, an art studio, and restaurants like the Tree Room and the Owl Bar, a saloon whose bar came from a Wyoming haunt of Butch Cassidy. It changed hands in 2020, and the new owners have been adding lifts and snowmaking while keeping its rustic feel.
The mountain is small by Utah standards but steep, with a strong share of black runs off the summit and long views of Timpanogos and the Wasatch Back. It is an easy drive from Provo, Orem and Lehi, which makes it a natural ski day for Utah County, and it has Nordic trails and snowshoeing nearby.

Good to know
- From Utah County, take US-189 up Provo Canyon and turn onto the Alpine Loop road, SR-92. The road beyond the resort closes in winter.
- Sundance is a good pick for a short day; parking is close to the lifts and lines are usually short.
- Book a table at the Tree Room or a drink at the Owl Bar even if you do not ski. Both are year-round.
